John Mullen brings an in-house lawyer's perspective to his employment counseling and litigation practice. For six years, Mr. Mullen managed all employment litigation throughout the United States for SAP, the world's leading provider of business applications software and related services. In that role, Mr. Mullen advised senior management and human resources professionals on a broad range of legal issues, including employment decision-making, litigation avoidance, litigation strategy, early dispute resolution and risk management. Mr. Mullen also assisted with the creation, implementation and administration of business conduct and human resources policies and training programs. He regularly collaborated with outside counsel around the country to craft practical and efficient solutions to a wide variety of legal problems.

Mr. Mullen has extensive experience responding to discrimination, harassment and retaliation claims under Title VII, the ADEA, the ADA, the FMLA and similar state laws, from receipt of the initial demand letter through EEOC or state agency administrative proceedings and litigation in federal or state court. He specializes in legal issues related to the recruitment of new employees and the departure of former employees who had access to trade secrets or other confidential and proprietary business information, and has favorably negotiated, resolved or litigated many disputes regarding the enforceability of non-competition, non-solicitation and confidentiality agreements and other restrictive covenants. Mr. Mullen has also been involved in planning and executing reductions in force, negotiating severance agreements, and settling or litigating compensation disputes.

Before joining SAP, Mr. Mullen was an associate with Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP, where he concentrated on employment, products liability and commercial litigation in federal and state courts in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Mr. Mullen served two federal judicial clerkships, first with the Honorable Joseph H. Rodriguez and later with the Honorable Jerome B. Simandle, both of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey in Camden, New Jersey. Mr. Mullen is a 1994 graduate of Rutgers University School of Law-Camden, where he was an editor of the Rutgers Law Journal. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987.

Mr. Mullen resides with his wife and two daughters in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, where he is an active member of Saint Bernadette of Lourdes Parish. He is an elected representative on the parish Pastoral Council, the athletic director of the parish Catholic Youth Organization ("CYO"), and the coach of the CYO cross country and track and field teams. He also serves as a member of the Family Advisory Council of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, as a member of the Parents Advisory Board of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, and as an official at the Penn Relays.
